Declan Queally and Nico de Boinville have settled their disagreement following Queally’s claim that de Boinville directed a racially offensive remark towards him at the Cheltenham Festival. The incident occurred during the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, the opening race on the second day of the festival, where both riders engaged in a tense confrontation amidst a chaotic start involving multiple false starts.
Despite the tense start, de Boinville finished second on Act Of Innocence, while Queally came in fifth on I’ll Sort That. Post-race, tensions escalated as Queally expressed his displeasure, labeling de Boinville’s behavior as abusive. In response, de Boinville suggested that Queally reflect on his own actions.
Queally later reported the incident to the BHA stewards, citing racial undertones in de Boinville’s comments. De Boinville declined to comment when approached for a response.
However, the situation has since been resolved, with both riders reconciling during an interview with ITV after The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle. Queally acknowledged the incident as a momentary conflict, extending forgiveness and good wishes to de Boinville. De Boinville reciprocated the sentiment, thanking Davy Russell for assisting in resolving the issue.
The reconciliation concluded with a handshake between the two riders before they prepared for the upcoming race. Former Champion Jockey AP McCoy commended their actions, stating it was the right course of action.
