Two individuals have been taken into custody following the theft of a singing nutcracker statue that delights children walking home from school. The 5-foot tall figure was stolen from the front of Luke Allum Funeral Directors in Sheerness, Kent. Owner Luke Allum expressed that the nutcracker statue brings happiness to children in the town and was displayed around 3 pm specifically for kids after school hours.
Allum mentioned that during the festive season, the company endeavors to engage in community activities. This year, the singing nutcracker was a hit with children, along with the Tree of Remembrance to honor loved ones and a remembrance post box for kids to send Christmas letters and cards to deceased loved ones. The nutcracker, which sings to children as they pass by, was a popular attraction until it was stolen while Allum and his colleagues were attending a funeral.
Feeling perplexed by the theft, Allum questioned the motive behind stealing a nutcracker. Following the incident, he reported the theft to the police and shared it on social media, receiving an outpouring of support from the community. Allum expressed a desire for the return of the nutcracker, emphasizing that it was purchased in September and replacing it would be challenging.
Kent Police have made a public appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the theft. They aim to recover the £250-valued nutcracker and return it to Allum. Two suspects, aged 59 and 39 from Sheerness, have been apprehended in connection with the theft. Individuals with relevant information or CCTV footage are urged to contact Kent Police referencing case number 46/208343/25.
