A tragic incident occurred on the Sunshine Coast where a teenage girl lost her life after falling from a cliff while attempting to take a photograph. The 17-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, was visiting a lookout point on Queen of Colonies Parade in Moffat Beach with her family when the fatal accident occurred. She slipped and fell approximately 30 meters to her death.
Authorities were alerted to the scene at around 6:40 pm, and despite the efforts of bystanders and paramedics who rushed to assist the girl, she succumbed to severe head injuries sustained during the fall. Additionally, another woman sustained minor injuries while trying to help the teenager.
Emergency services have issued a warning urging people to maintain a safe distance from cliff edges. Ryan Dubyk from Queensland’s Fire and Rescue emphasized the importance of respecting safety barriers at lookout points to prevent such tragedies, especially during this time of year when the area sees increased tourist activity.
The lookout at Moffat Beach, offering picturesque views of the beach and the Coral Sea, is a popular destination for both tourists and locals. Queensland Police confirmed that a report will be prepared for the coroner following the sudden death of the teenage girl. The police assisted in locating the girl, who tragically passed away at the scene due to critical injuries. Another woman suffered a minor injury while attempting to help before emergency services arrived.
