The Vancouver Rise have welcomed reinforcements to their squad. The Northern Super League team recently signed two defenders in preparation for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides this Saturday. Chantelle Swaby, formerly of Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who previously played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, are the new additions to the Rise.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed confidence in the impact both players will have on the team. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League and France’s top division. She is known for her composure and leadership qualities on the field.
Hansen, aged 26, is excited to return home to Vancouver and play in front of a local crowd. The Burnaby native is eager to contribute to the team’s success and be close to her family again. The signings of Swaby and Hansen come after the retirement of Mariah Lee, who decided to pursue a career in law, leaving a gap in the Rise’s lineup.
Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan has been loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. With the Rise currently trailing the Tides in the standings, the team is focused on securing a playoff spot.
