Knife-point robberies in areas most affected have decreased by 15% compared to the same period last year, according to newly released data. The Home Office reported that more than 3,000 county lines networks have been dismantled, resulting in approximately 2,500 fewer individuals facing the threat of being robbed with a knife.

Furthermore, over 8,000 arrests have been made in efforts to combat drug trafficking operations, which frequently exploit children. The data indicates that more than 4,000 young people and vulnerable individuals have received assistance to steer them away from gang involvement.

Speaking to The Mirror, Policing Minister Sarah Jones emphasized that the government is delivering on Labour’s commitment to address knife crime effectively. She highlighted the deliberate strategies that have contributed to this positive development.

Under the County Lines Programme established by the Government, 3,042 county lines have been disrupted, leading to 8,226 arrests since July 2024. The Home Office also reported the seizure of 923 knives and the initiation of 4,323 safeguarding referrals.

The Labour party, which aimed to halve knife crime within ten years upon assuming power, has received support for its efforts. Pooja Kanda, whose teenage son fell victim to a fatal attack in 2022, commended the progress made, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to combat youth violence.

Kate Wareham, the strategic director of Catch22, an anti-knife crime organization, expressed optimism about the Home Office’s actions against county lines, highlighting the positive outcomes in disrupting criminal networks and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

In October 2024, the Government launched a specialized task force, focusing on tackling knife-enabled robberies in seven highly impacted regions. These areas, including London, Greater Manchester, the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, and the British Transport Police jurisdiction, reported a notable 15% reduction in knife-enabled robberies, from 16,067 to 13,633 incidents.
