Topshop is making a comeback on the UK high street through a new collaboration with John Lewis. After shutting down its standalone stores in 2021, the fashion brand is set to be featured in all 32 department stores of John Lewis and on their website, with Topman products available in seven of these locations.
This launch will showcase a curated selection of 130 of Topshop’s most sought-after items, including their iconic denim pieces. The decision to reintroduce Topshop at John Lewis follows successful pop-up events in various John Lewis stores and is part of an £800 million investment by John Lewis in new brands for the upcoming spring/summer season.
Previously owned by Arcadia, Topshop and Topman exited the UK high street scene in 2021 after Arcadia went into administration. ASOS, the current owner, has been selling Topshop products online. Last year, Topshop made a return to Oxford Street in London through a launch at the Liberty department store.
Michelle Wilson, the managing director of Topshop, expressed excitement about the partnership with John Lewis, emphasizing the convenience for customers to access their favorite Topshop and Topman pieces. The collaboration aims to provide the high level of service that customers expect from the brands.
The reintroduction of Topshop coincides with London Fashion Week and will be complemented by a “takeover” event at Piccadilly Circus in London and other activations across the UK. This move aligns with John Lewis’s efforts to enhance its fashion offerings as part of its ongoing transformation under the leadership of Peter Ruis.
Mr. Ruis, the managing director of John Lewis, highlighted the brand’s investment in fashion to support its strategic objectives. He emphasized the significance of being the exclusive home of iconic brands like Topshop as part of John Lewis’s commitment to becoming a leading fashion authority on the British high street.
In addition to Topshop, John Lewis is introducing 14 new fashion, jewelry, and accessory labels for the current season, further expanding its fashion portfolio.
